Roma Raises £1,200!

Local singer-songwriter, age 11, raises £1,200 for the homeless with charity CD.

11 year old singer-songwriter, Roma Manteiga Nicholson, from Ipswich, has so far raised over £1200 for local charity Selig Suffolk, through sales of her charity CD ‘Welcome to the Waterfront’.

Roma has been working tirelessly to promote the CD following its launch at Sailmakers shopping centre last month. Featuring three original songs written by herself and her mother Rosa, all money raised will go towards funding a number of local projects to support the homeless, including the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter.

Her latest promotional venture saw Roma interviewing Julia Hancock from Selig Suffolk, in a bid to help youngsters like herself understand the complexities of the homeless situation in Ipswich.

Julia Hancock said:

“Roma is a huge inspiration and has worked incredibly hard to promote her CD and raise money for our charity. The interview was a brilliant idea and I enjoyed being interviewed by her”

Roma has also been performing and raising awareness about the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter  at local events, with more planned in the coming weeks, while her music video for one song, ‘Father’ has received over 23,000 views on YouTube already.

Speaking of her reasons for wanting to raise money for the homeless in Suffolk, Roma said:

“My mum volunteered at the Ipswich Winter night Shelter, and I was incredibly proud of her as she suffers from anxiety. I didn’t really understand much about the homeless and I’ve learnt so much both from my mum and from Julia at Selig that I felt it was important to pass on this information to other. It’s not just about raising much need funds it’s about raising awareness about what the charity does and how anyone regardless of their age can help”.

Roma is on target to raise her target of £2000 by the end of November before the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter opens again. Donations can be made online at
