Cambridge University’s prestigious drama group The Marlowe Society return to Cambridge Arts Theatre with a contemporary and exciting new adaptation of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.

A tale of star-crossed lovers, family feuds and forbidden passion, Shakespeare’s story is stripped back to reveal a society where love and intimacy are dangerously prohibited…

Founded in 1907, The Marlowe Society is one of Cambridge University’s oldest drama societies, boasting an illustrious alumnus. Previous members include Trevor Nunn, Sir Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson and Peter Hall. The Marlowe Society perform annually at Cambridge Arts Theatre, recent productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2023), Othello (2020) and Much Ado About Nothing (2019).

Josh Seymour is a theatre director based in London, whose most recent directorial credits include That Face by Polly Stenham (Orange Tree Theatre), Suddenly Last Summer by Tennessee Williams (English Theatre Frankfurt) and The Narcissist by Christopher Shinn (Chichester Festival Theatre).
