Second Hand Dance

Have you ever put your coat on the wrong-way? Or couldn’t find the right arm holes in your trousers? Or had a day where you just didn’t want to wear clothes?

Dive into a world of colour, texture and movement with Second Hand Dance at DanceEast on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th March. This new show invites us all to be creative as we can with the clothes we wear, finding our own favourites and tempting us to try getting dressed just a little bit differently.

Climb mountains of clothes, plunge into piles of pants or swing in swathes of skirts. Whether they’re big or small, scratchy or soft, ordinary or extraordinary – one thing is for sure – clothes and getting dressed will never be the same again!

Inspired by the work of visual artist Derick Melander, textiles and clothes will form an installation on stage, a world of fabric for the movement to inhabit. Director and choreographer Rosie Heafford said,

‘I have been inspired by watching the acrobatics performed when adults and children get dressed, whether it be balancing on one leg to put a shoe on or reaching around to grab that illusive side of the coat, it’s fascinating.’

Second Hand Dance correlates with dancers, artists and the public to make thought provoking, joyful and highly visual dance performances for all ages.

Following the performance there will be an opportunity to ‘Stay & Play’ with all the clothes from the show, dressing up and trying something different. Performances will also be accompanied by clothes inspired activities for the whole family to enjoy together.
