Shakatak

After a thoroughly enjoyed festival season, it’s time to turn our attention once again to the bread and butter of indoor gigs. As you might know, I promote concerts in and around the Ipswich area and am delighted to bringing two very successful eighties acts to the New Wolsey Theatre. Jazz funk pioneers Shakatak are back at the venue they sold out in 2012 while their fellow hit-makers China Crisis are making their Ipswich debut.

Let’s start with the evergreen Shakatak. Best known for their classic singles Easier Said Than Done, Night Birds and Down On The Street, they remain a band at the very top of their game. Founder members Roger Odell, George Anderson, Bill Sharpe and Jill Saward continue to make great music together and their eagerly awaited Ipswich return on Sunday, October 14 will no doubt be one to savour.

Three weeks later (Sunday, November 4)  the legendary Liverpool outfit China Crisis are at The New Wolsey celebrating their magnificent Walter Becker-produced album Flaunt the Imperfection. They’ll be playing the CD from start to finish in a show which will also include many of their other magic moments. Hits like Wishful Thinking, Christian, Black Man Ray and King In A Catholic Style are among the best singles of the eighties and having seen the band perform in London a couple of years back those songs still sound every bit as good if not better!

I’ve also managed to secure the services of Grammy award winning bluesman Alvin ‘Youngblood’ Hart for a solo show at The Avenue Theatre in Ipswich on Saturday, November 10. Alvin is a remarkable musician who has managed to keep moving with the times. His take on country-blues is quite a live experience and to see him close up at the home of Red Rose Chain Theatre Company is a rare treat.

The excellent Steemy Dan are back in Ipswich on Friday, October 19. Their amazing take on Steely Dan has to be seen and heard to be believed. Catch them at St Peter’s-by-the-Waterfront.

Finally, I’m bringing Dr Feelgood back to Venue 77 on Thursday, December 20 for their annual Christmas bash. So a pretty busy final quarter of 2018 on the promotions front. I hope you can make it to at least one of those.
