Storytelling Festival

Settle Storytelling Festival 7-10 oct 2010

Some of the UK’s best loved storytellers will be taking part in the 3-day East Anglian Storytelling Festival in Blaxhall from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th July this year. The festival’s patron, Taffy Thomas MBE – the UKs first storytelling laureate – will be joined by Shonaleigh Cumbers a Jewish Drut’syla with over 5000 stories to share! Other nationally acclaimed tellers include Giles Abbott, Abbie Palache and the prolific John Row – a firm favourite on the festival scene.

The festival takes place at Blaxhall Village Hall and playing field and at The Blaxhall Ship. At the marquee on the playing field each afternoon storytellers from across the UK will be telling stories to delight and entertain children of all ages. In addition, these family story sessions will feature new local legends, created especially for the festival by school children at special workshops in schools across East Anglia.

Story Rounds, where anyone can share a story will be also taking place – giving everyone a chance to tell a story of their own – be they adults, children, professional or amateur.

At The Ship, there will be a Story Table for the whole afternoon with big name tellers and locals all dropping by to share a tale or two – and perhaps even some members of the public too!

For those who want to know more about storytelling, the Village Hall will play host to Professional Development workshops and Spotlight on Storytelling sessions each day, where all your questions can be answered. All the daytime sessions are free to attend although the age old tradition of ‘passing the hat’ will allow visitors to show their appreciation and help raise additional funds.

Festival Co-ordinator Justine de Mierre said:

“The line-up is spectacular this year. We wanted every session to give a variety of flavours of storytelling and I’m so proud that we’ve achieved that. There are comic tales, real life tales, moving tales, mythical sagas, gentle narratives and full on romps – I can’t wait!”
