The BIG Sing is a community choir that uses music to unite people of all ages, backgrounds & cultures. In the last five years Gemma and Howard Francis have started choirs in Essex, London, Kent and Hertfordshire. There are choirs for adults, children and tots under the age of five and Gemma is currently in the process of setting up a charity to bring music to those that can’t come to choir – including hospitals, schools and care homes.
Edie Farrell joined Maldon’s BIG Sing at the age of eleven just after starting High School and for a long time was the youngest member of the choir. Having recently moved to Ipswich and now a pupil at Northgate sixth form, Edie is currently working to establish the BIG sing in Ipswich.
‘The BIG sing helped me through many rough patches at school, I have made so many friends through it and feel like I’m part of a huge growing family. Gemma and Howard have become my role models and taught me so much over these last few years, and being part of the BIG sing has made me realise I want to pursue a career in music.”
Edie will start The LITTLE Sing for ages 5-11 on will be on Tuesday 1st November from 4-5pm at the Jerwood DanceHouse. For just £4 a week, the children will learn an array of pop soul and gospel songs with our own funky arrangements and actions.
