The Full Monty Returns To Norwich

A host of top TV and stage performers are set to bring a classic show back to Norwich Theatre Royal in October by public demand.

The Full Monty proved to be one of the venue’s hottest tickets on its previous visit to the city in December 2015.

Now it is set to return this autumn and features a top-class cast headed by Gary Lucy, who starred in the show’s previous production. A household name on the small screen, Gary’s previous TV roles including businessman Danny Pennant in EastEnders, caring copper Will Fletcher in The Bill, lead character Kyle Pascoe in Footballer’s Wives, and troubled Luke Morgan in Hollyoaks. He also gained the hearts of millions of Sunday night ITV viewers when he won the hit reality contest Dancing On Ice.

Also returning to Norwich from the show’s previous run will be Theatre Royal favourite Andrew Dunn, who is best known as Tony in Dinnerladies, and Louis Emerick who played Mick Johnson in Brookside and PC Walsh in Last Of The Summer Wine.

A trio of familiar faces will also be joining the cast for the autumn run. They are Joe Absolom, who played Matthew Rose in EastEnders and Al Large in Doc Martin, Chris Fountain, who is best known for the roles of Justin Burton in Hollyoaks and Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street, and Kai Owen, who appeared in Torchwood and is currently starring as the evil Pete in Hollyoaks.

It also features a strong creative team with the production being directed by Jack Ryder, whose previous credits include national tours of Calendar Girls and the short film Act Of Memory starring Claire Skinner, Owen Teale and Anna Massey. In front of the cameras, he is probably best known for playing Jamie Mitchell in EastEnders.

The Full Monty has also been adapted for the stage by Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar and Bafta-winning writer of the movie, and it also features a number of iconic songs from the film by the likes of Donna Summer, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones.

It tells the story of six out-of-work Sheffield steelworkers who decide to bare all and become male strippers in an effort to keep their heads above water. The experience changes them all and makes them reassess their lives, in a show which mixes drama and comedy.

John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said:

“In the words of one of the songs featured in the show, The Full Monty tickets will be Hot Stuff. The producers have unveiled an incredible line-up of actors to take on the lead roles in this show which is packed with drama, comedy, feel-good moments and some great songs.”
