Don’t Tell Him Pike!
One of the most loved British sitcoms of all time will be brought to life when ‘Dad’s Army Radio Hour’ hits the stage at Chelmsford Civic Theatre on Wednesday 28 November.
The series was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, and together they gave the nation many happy hours watching the hapless exploits of the Home Guard at Walmington-on-Sea. The TV shows ran for nine series but there was also a film and a radio series which was based on the TV scripts. Now three of those classic radio episodes will be performed in front of your eyes when two actors, David Benson and Jack Lane, play 25 characters in this warm-hearted salute to Captain Mainwaring, Sargeant Wilson, Jonesy, Godfrey, Pike and the rest of the cast.
With Dad’s Army commemorating its 50th anniversary there is no better time to celebrate the laugh-out-loud gags of the character driven wartime sitcom. David Benson and Jack Lane are both skillful mimics who fully inhabit all the characters. The show includes sound effects and musical scene changes that all add to the performance.
Dad’s Army Radio Hour had a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe and has gone on to sell out shows in London and has toured nationally this year, all to glowing reviews. You’d be a ‘stupid boy’ to miss the show, but ‘don’t panic’ there are a few tickets remaining.
