Guys and Dolls: Norwich Cast Confirmed

Two well-known TV and stage actors join a pair of hugely respected West End performers in the critically-acclaimed production of Guys and Dolls which is heading to Norwich Theatre Royal in May.

The producers have assembled a star cast for the feel-good musical comedy set in Prohibition-era New York which sees dice-player Nathan Detroit and notorious gambler Sky Masterson match nerves and luck in the ultimate wager.

Taking the role of Nathan is Richard Fleeshman, who shot to fame playing the role of Craig Harris in Coronation Street. He has also enjoyed a successful stage career appearing in the lead role in Ghost The Musical in the West End, and Warner in Legally Blonde also in the West End.

He will star opposite Maxwell Caulfield, who will play Sky Masterson. The American actor has enjoyed a number of high-profile TV roles including Miles Colby in Dynasty and The Colbys, and Nathan Wylde in Emmerdale. He is also a highly sought-after theatre performer playing Billy Flynn in Chicago in the West End, starring in An Inspector Calls on Broadway, and playing RF Simpson in Singin’ In The Rain which came to Norwich Theatre Royal as part of a successful UK tour.

Nightclub singer and Nathan’s fiancée Miss Adelaide will be portrayed by Louise Dearman. A stage actress with a strong performing pedigree, her previous roles include Elphaba and Glinda in Wicked in the West End, the lead role in a UK tour of Evita, and Lucy Harris in the critically-acclaimed musical Jekyll And Hyde opposite Marti Pellow.

Meanwhile another West End favourite Anna O’Byrne takes on the role of straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown. Anna has appeared in a number of hit productions including Phantom Of The Opera, Barnum, Sweeney Todd, and was nominated for a Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Maria in an Australian production of West Side Story.

The production, which runs from May 3-7, also boasts a strong creative team. Choreographer Carlos Acosta danced as a principal with the English National Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba and Houston Ballet, as well as being a principal guest artist with the Royal Ballet, and has created roles for productions worldwide. He also won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance.

Meanwhile the director Gordon Greenberg has directed musicals and plays at major venues across America and Europe, and has written for television and stage. His directing credits include the award-winning New York revival of Studs Terkel’s Working. Gordon also wrote The Single Girls Guide which updated Jane Austen’s novel Emma, and directed Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn and The Secret Of My Success for Universal Pictures Stage Production.

And Gordon said Norwich audiences are set to enjoy a fantastic show. He also said:

“It has beautiful costumes and sets, a cast that could not be better, and some great dancing, acting and singing performances. It is a delightful production and first class in every way.”
