Peter Duncan to star in ‘The Dame’

Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is pleased to welcome Here’s One I Made Earlier in association with Cahoots Theatre Company with their new show The Dame, starring former Blue Peter daredevil, Peter Duncan. A moving and mesmerising one-man performance that demands attention and deserves to be seen (Wed 19 & Thu 20 Feb).

A lost world of seaside entertainment, piers and promenades is brought to life when seasoned Pantomime Dame; Ronald Roy Humphrey returns to his Northern roots. As the curtain falls on the last show of the day, Roy is in a wistful, melancholic mood, but as the years fall away, ghosts and memories from the past confront him with what he has spent his whole life trying to forget. The Dame takes us on a journey inside an entertainer’s mind to expose the fragile creature beneath the make-up, bluster and bravado. However many masks we wear, the truth will always be revealed.

Starring Olivier Award nominated actor and former Blue Peter daredevil Peter Duncan (Treasure Island, Hairspray, Birdsong); written by his daughter Katie Duncan and directed by the award-winning Ian Talbot, Artistic Director of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre for over 20 years.

Talking about his role in the show, Peter said: “I’ve never played a dame before, I’ve done lots of pantomimes, I kind of grew up in the world. I’ve played baddies, villains and heroes, but this is the first time I’ve ever put on a dress and become a character. It’s emotionally linked to my own parents and my childhood, as well as Katie’s writing and her world, it’s like these two worlds colliding.”

The Dame has two performances at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, Wed 19 and Thu 20 Feb, tickets are on sale at the Box Office, call 01284 769 505, book online at or visit the theatre in person.
