Showstopper! The Improvised Musical

Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds will play host to a musical so ‘brand new’ even the cast don’t know what it will be yet, as Showstopper! The Improvised Musical takes to the stage in January. A fully-formed musical will be created from scratch live on stage based on suggestions from the audience, including songs, harmonies and even dance routines, it will also be very funny to watch (Sat 20 Jan).

With ten years as an Edinburgh Fringe must-see phenomenon, a BBC Radio 4 series, a critically acclaimed West End run and an Olivier Award to their name, The Showstoppers have delighted audiences across the globe with their ingenious blend of comedy, musical theatre and spontaneity.

The seasoned cast, who must rehearse for a year before they can take part in front of an audience, are all renowned for their improvisation work. The audience are invited to provide suggestions of elements to be included in the performance and they can even name the show which is then added to the Showtoppers’ archive. Previous show titles include; Coal Runnings, Jack the Zipper, You’ve Got to be Kitten Me and HMS Haunted.
