Singin’ in the Rain

This August, Norwich Playhouse once again plays host to the Norwich-based, multi-award winning theatre company Sound Ideas with their production of Singin’ in the Rain.

The greatest of the Hollywood golden-age musicals explodes on to the stage in an evening of pure joy this August 22nd-26th. The latest eye-catching, fizzing and visually sparkling production from the ambitious local group features a live professional band alongside some of the region’s most talented performers and a downpour of rain every single night – this is certainly not a show to miss!

Sound Ideas are a fresh and innovative theatre company based in Norwich who formed back in 2013 as part of the Norwich Fringe Festival. They now produce an exciting season of theatre each year in a variety of venues in and around Norwich. Beginning as a small group of friends with a passion for innovative theatre, crowded around a piano in a friend’s garage – they packed out their first concert, ‘The Obscure Revue’ which spring-boarded work from there on after and has allowed the group to flourish and grow into the fabulous team that they are today.

The team have produced a wealth of exciting and engaging productions over the last few years which have been nominated for and have received a variety of awards and accolades including the Dr Frank Bates award for Musical Theatre and Dance at the Norfolk Arts Awards, sponsored by the EDP.

In 2016 they took the Norwich theatre scene by storm when they staged the regional premiere of oddball toilet-themed hit Broadway cult musical Urinetown, followed closely by the equally ambitious Christmas production of Stephen Sondheim’s dark spin on fairytales, Into The Woods. 2017 began with an immersive and site-specific production of the dark tale of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; their first professional engagement – USHERS: The Front of House Musical followed and the year was finished by the cult-classic – Little Shop of Horrors. Singin’ in the Rain will be the second production for 2018 following their biggest challenge to date, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert!

The show tells the story of the first Hollywood musical, when the silver screen found its voice and left silent movies and some of its stars behind. This spectacular show is packed full of charm, romance, comedy and tinseltown glamour of one the world’s best loved movies and features all the songs from the glorious MGM score including Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the classic – Singin’ in the Rain.

Full of high energy choreography and a sumptuous production design (including a downpour of real rain every single night – why not try the splash-zone seats!?) Singin’ in the Rain showers you with everything you could wish for in a musical!

Singin’ in the Rain is being staged at Norwich Playhouse in Norwich from August 22nd-26th. 7.30pm nightly (2:30pm additional matinees on the 23rd, 25th and 26th).

Tickets £18-22. Visit www.norwichplayhouse.co.uk to book or for more information.
