Sleeping Beauty on a Bus!

Some of the cast of this year’s Norwich Theatre Royal pantomime are set to show their support for a festive fundraising initiative in Norwich.

Performers from Sleeping Beauty will be among the first passengers jumping aboard a glorious vintage London Routemaster bus which will be offering free lifts to festive shoppers between December 20-24.

Stephen Godward, who plays Lord Teddy Norbridge in the show, and several ensemble members will jump aboard outside the Theatre Royal on the first day of the service at around 12.15pm before joining shoppers who will enjoy a ride in style around the city.

The new service is going to operate on a hop-on and hop-off service in Norwich City Centre at various stops including Castle Meadow, St Stephen’s Street, City Hall & Norwich Rail Station.

And the bus itself is a piece of history. The 1965 London Transport Routemaster double-decker will be ferrying shoppers as part of an initiative between VisitNorwich/Norwich BID and private hire company Awayadays, who also operate the CitySightseeing Norwich Tour Bus.

The drivers and conductors, who will all be dressed up in festive garb, are giving up their time for free and people using the service are being asked to make a donation to the Benjamin Foundation which helps around 2,000 people across Norfolk and Suffolk each year by providing them with hope, opportunity, stability and independence.

John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “Members of our panto cast were delighted to be part of the first day of this fun festive service. Part of the show is also set in the past so they were excited to fit in with the historical theme as well as help raise money and awareness of a fantastic charity.”

Cast-members from the Norwich Theatre Royal pantomime Sleeping Beauty will jump aboard the bus on Theatre Street at 12.15pm on Wednesday 20 December. They will be in costume and will also stay on board the bus meeting passengers until the Castle Meadow stop. You can find out more about the festive bus service at www.awayadays.com.

Sleeping Beauty runs at the Norwich Theatre Royal until Sunday 14th January 2018. For more information or to book, log onto www.theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk or call the box office on 01603 630000.
