The Charge of the Parasols

The Garrett Players present: The Charge of the Parasols

Come along to the Long Shop Museum to Leiston to catch a glimpse into the fascinating life of one woman whose struggle changed the lives of many others.  One hundred years after her death, this new play is written and performed by local residents to celebrate the achievements of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson.  Mother, doctor, Mayor, trailblazer.

The play will be performed on 27th and 28th October at 7.30 pm as part of the National Museums at Night initiative. It depicts Elizabeth Garrett Anderson’s struggle to become a doctor within the medical hierarchy. Her fight against prejudice, her constant rejections and the conflict not only divided society at large, but caused friction in her own family, particularly due to her involvement in the suffrage movement with Millicent Fawcett, her younger sister, eventually becoming a leader of the suffragists.
