The Good Person of Szechwan

Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is delighted to be welcoming Bury Theatre Workshop with their version of Bertolt Brecht’s The Good Person of Szechwan (Tue 23 – Sat 27 Jan).

A jolly tale set in south-western China. The gods come to earth in search of a truly good person. They find only Shen Te, a good-hearted but penniless prostitute, and make her a gift of money to set up her own business. But her goodness brings ruin and she must disguise herself as a man, Shui Ta, in order to muster sufficient ruthlessness to survive. What will become of her?

Written by German theatre practitioner Bertolt Brecht in 1941, the play was first performed in Britain in 1953. Now Bury Theatre Workshop have put together a large ensemble cast for their fabulously colourful production, with songs and masks, it promises to be a theatre experience to remember.
