Then & Now

Then & Now includes fourteen pieces, which merge the past and present, by mixing the old and new Colchester together. Each piece in this exhibition has been digitally produced using a fusion of an old photograph of a well known location in Colchester, taken decades ago, and a second photograph taken by the artist, at the same spot and from the exact same angle.

Martin Russell, Head of Learning and Participation at the Mercury Theatre, said:

“We have been working with Xav since April as part of our commitment to nurturing local talent. This is the second exhibition Xav has had with us, and his work is timely for the direction in which the Mercury Theatre is travelling.”

The Digby Gallery is an exhibition space within the Mercury Theatre which exhibits work by artists living and/or working in the region. It is run by the Creative Learning and Talent Department’s enterprise Make It, a participatory scheme for people of all ages and from all walks of life. Make It is aimed at helping aspiring artists, performers, technicians, designers and writers to meet people, learn new skills and develop their creativity.
