Virtuoso Harp & Violin Duo in Suffolk

by | Oct 18, 2023 | Music

A remarkable virtuoso duo are heading to Bury St Edmunds soon, when acclaimed harpist, Catrin Finch joins versatile and gifted violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain, for an evening of beautiful classical and folk inspired music.

Catrin Finch is a star in the world of classical music and widely recognised as one of the finest harpists that Britain has produced. A nominee for a Classical Brit Award, she has performed with orchestras all over the world (including the Royal Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Pops). A regular visitor to The Apex, Catrin always delights the audience with her beautiful harp playing, while at the same time challenging the traditional role of the instrument with her innovative collaborations – most notably with kora player Seckou Keita, with whom she has earned three Radio 2 Folk Awards and played the BBC Proms 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Dublin native Aoife Ní Bhriain is one of her generation’s most versatile and gifted violinists, a dazzling musician who commands both the classical world and her Irish traditional heritage.

The Welsh harp, played by Catrin, and the fiddle, played by Aoife, are iconic symbols of two nations steeped in music. Both Catrin & Aoife are incredible virtuosos, dedicated to achieving the highest standards on their respective instruments. Both began their careers in the classical world, but given Aoife’s heritage, it was inevitable that would also become a master of the Irish tradition. It was equally inevitable that Catrin, with her inquisitive nature, would seek artistic inspiration beyond the confines of the classical world.

Together, they explore a musical world linked by the cultures of their home countries and inspired by a multitude of influences.

Catrin Finch & Aoife Ni Bhriain are at The Apex on Sunday 29 October at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758 000 for more information or to book tickets.
