This year’s Weird & Wonderful Wood Festival at Haughley Park was exceptionally popular! With glorious weather and people wanting to get out out, this festival was packed to the rafters with families and people thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Across the beautiful gardens of Haughley Park there were plenty of wood-filled delights to see and experience. There were many stalls of wood crafts with crafters giving demonstrations of their skills, there were high end wood furniture pieces which were exceptional, as well as a variety of craft stands, jewellery, plants and other delights to view and purchase.
There was plenty to experience with the variety of activities, workshops on offer for all ages. From basket weaving, musical instrument making, den building, chainsaw carving, wood carving and plenty more.
Street Performers were spontaneously appearing, whether it was the old-fashioned tea lady on stilts or the giant Viking roaming about. There were also timed performances by the mound which happened over the weekend and included jugglers and comedy performances which kept the audience entertained while they were relaxing on the mound.
The music stage had a variety of folk and alternative to pop music which was a busy area due to the thorough delight from the musicians. They were all wonderful and I could have sat in that area all day listening to them.
Food and drink were plentiful from locally sourced sausages to noodles and Mexican, there was enough variety to suit all kinds of taste buds and plenty of coffee, ice-cream and beer outlets to help if all go down.
Being at Haughley Park you were able to see the stunning house and it’s gardens, a sight we don’t often get the opportunity to see as it is not usually open to the public, however for this weekend it was a privilege to be able to be so close and admire the very well-kept gardens and the beautiful house.
Weird and Wonderful Wood Festival is a lovely, friendly environment for the whole family to enjoy. Definitely one to visit.
