West End Stars in Frinton Summer Theatre’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar

Tim Rogers and Hugh Maynard to appear as Jesus and Judas Iscariot in Frinton Summer Theatre’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Almost fifty years to the day since Jesus Christ Superstar was first staged at The Palace Theatre in London, Frinton Summer Theatre is producing the only fully staged production of this iconic rock opera anywhere in the UK in 2022. Jesus Christ Superstar will run from 19th August to 4th September in a three hundred and twenty seat marquee on the Greensward at Frinton’s sea front, ensuring a memorable and unique theatrical experience.

The main roles of Jesus and Judas Iscariot have been cast with internationally renowned singers and performers Tim Rogers as Jesus and Hugh Maynard as Judas Iscariot.
Tim is absolutely delighted to be joining Frinton Summer Theatre this year in the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. Tim has a strong affiliation with the piece as he has performed in it a number of times, most recently as Judas in the National and European tour.

Tim is a big Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, having starred in UK and International productions of Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies, Whistle Down the Wind and Aspects of Love. Other credits include Carousel, Jekyll and Hyde and West Side Story, The Pirates of Penzance and The Full Monty. Originally hailing from Australia, Tim’s theatre and concert work has taken him around the world yet for over a decade now he is thrilled to call the UK home.

West End star, Hugh Maynard, made his debut in Jesus Christ Superstar 1998, after being chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s company RUG. (Really Useful Theatre Group) playing Simon Zealotes, and understudy Judas Iscariot. He is looking forward to experiencing it again after all this time.

He says, “My mind is clearer now, at last all too well, I can see where we all soon will be. Jesus, I am so excited to be involved in this production”.  Hugh has appeared as Simba, in the original London Cast of The Lion King, Notre Dame de Paris, Follies, Dancing in the Streets, Sister Act, We Will Rock You and he was cast as John, in the original tour of Miss Saigon to which Hugh remains the youngest actor in musical history to play this role.
Hugh made history again playing Sweeney Todd, in the musical Sweeney Todd, becoming the first British black actor ever to play this role.

Hugh has enjoyed international success touring UK, Europe, Asia and America singing in the rock group Tenors of Rock. He also performed at the 2012 London Olympic Games concert with Tenors of Rock.

This year’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar is being made possible by generous individual support by Frinton Summer Theatre ‘Angels’.
