What’s On At The New Wolsey

As the weather continues to tease us with a hopeful summer, the New Wolsey Theatre is look ahead to September and getting ready for the beginning of its jam-packed Autumn season!

 Here’s what you can look forward to this September:

On Fri 9, Duke’s Comedy Club presents some of the finest comedians from the UK including: bawdy and brilliant, Vikki Stone – one of the finest musical comedians on the UK circuit today; fresh and fun, rising star Simon Fielder – the king of quirky and is fast becoming a star of stand up, and comedy magician Neil Henry who was one of the stand out acts of last year’s Edinburgh Festival and is a YouTube sensation after proposing to his girlfriend onstage.

On Sat 10, Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri present their spellbinding show that has been touring for almost two decades. This acoustic journey includes stories, songs and unique covers of Kate Bush and Frank Sinatra tracks, and of course Kiki’s own hits Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, I Got The Music In Me, and Amoureuse.

On Sun 11, for an audience with Ian Lavender Don’t Tell Him Pike. Delighting audiences of 18 million plus between 1968 and 1977, Ian Lavender starred in the original Dad’s Army as Private Pike, the teenager whose mum made him wear a scarf “to protect him from the croup”. He shares with the writer and broadcaster Chris Serle a generous helping of his brilliantly funny anecdotes about the making of the series. Tickets are selling fast so don’t delay!

Mods all over the county get ready to scoot down to see All Or Nothing from Mon 12 to Sat 17, the ultimate Mod musical on the scene. Featuring the music of the Small Faces, the show includes an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Shar La La La Lee, Here Comes The Nice, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing.

From Wed 21 Sept to Sat 15 Oct, the New Wolsey Theatre’s co-production with Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch Made In Dagenham comes to Ipswich. With an mighty cast of over 20 actor-musicians, and inspired by a true story, Made in Dagenham is an uplifting musical comedy about how ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Don’t miss the regional premiere of this very British musical following it’s 2014 critically acclaimed West End run.

Frozen Light return to the New Wolsey Theatre from Thu 22 to Sat 24 with their brand new production Home, for audiences with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and their family, friends and carers. A tale of unexpected friendship exploring a new and unknown world, Home immerses audiences in a multi-sensory story of discovery.

September also sees the New Wolsey Studio welcome some of the best children’s theatre touring the UK. On Sat 10, join Garlic Theatre with their award winning production George & The Dragon, a delicious blend of wit, humour and inventiveness combined to celebrate one of the most famous medieval legends of all time. On Sat 24, Penguin! Elephant! Is a magical new show celebrating differences for anyone who’s ever waddled like a penguin or stomped like an elephant. Free story event for ages 3 to 6, Storymaker, starts up again for the Autumn season from Sat 17 in the New Wolsey bar.
