Wonder of Pop Legend Stevie Goes Live at Seaside Theatre

-

He has been the sunshine of many people’s musical lives – and now the sounds of Stevie Wonder are heading to St George’s Theatre at Great Yarmouth on April 30.

Some Kinda Wonderful showcases the songs of a legendary singer-songwriter whose hits have spanned the 1960s to the present day.

The show features vocalist Noel McCalla, who has also fronted Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, with a band of world-class musicians led by saxophone ace Derek Nash, a regular member of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004.

The band was born when Derek and Noel met while playing at a gig where the set list included Stevie’s He’s Misstra Know-It-All.

Derek explained: “I loved the way Noel sang it and I said to him ‘we have to do more of this’. I suggested doing a full night of Stevie Wonder’s music. Noel was initially reticent because Stevie is such a living legend.

“But we are not a tribute act copying the songs exactly. Noel doesn’t pretend to be blind or sit behind a keyboard and we have replaced the harmonica solos with sax, keyboard and guitar.

“People love the show which includes classic hits, some lesser-known songs, and even a few Stevie wrote for other people.”

The hits will range from dance floor fillers such as Superstition and Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours to classic love songs like My Cherie Amour and Lately.

“It’s a guided tour of Stevie Wonder which always ends up with a party and everybody dancing,” said Derek.

The other band members are Neil Angilley (keyboards), Nic France (drums), Tim Cransfield (guitar) and Jonathan Noyce (bass) – all skilled musicians in their own rights who have played with many music greats including Bill Withers, Gary Moore, The Bee Gees and Michael Ball and Alfie Boe.
